The agricultural sector in Uganda employs over 82% of the workforce and accounts for 90 percent of export earnings. Majority of the home steads depend on substance farming, in the early 1990s Ugandan farmers used to depend on the natural God given good weather for agriculture, however times have changed, the rains are scarce, the dry spells sometimes go for 4 to 5 months. With little or no rains, farmers are faced with drought that results in crops drying up, or have poor crop yields.
Hope Worldwide International Uganda focuses on providing agricultural loans, teaching farmers on how to practice commercial farming, and gives business capital to farmers like chicks, teaching them commercial farming on Hope Worldwide International demonstrational farm. We also provide extension services to the farmers which include: advising farmers on better quality seeds, advising farmers on better farming methods and fertilizers that work for the crops and soils for the particular regions.
For Hope worldwide International Uganda to effectively manage this, we have to partner with other development agencies to enable us cover many parts of the country. Therefore we call upon our dear core funders and donors, non-governmental organizations and all other partners to join hands with Hope Worldwide International Uganda to help boost agriculture in Uganda.
