Child labour in Uganda continues to persist even though laws and standards provided by the Government to eliminate it exist. Current causes including poverty, limited access to education, repression of workers’ rights, and limited prohibitions on child labour. The largest number of the child labourers work with their families and live at home, others go to work for pay on employers farms.

Farming accounts for 92% of the hazardous child labour in Uganda. The incidence of an orphan child becoming a child labour is greater as compared to non-orphans. Majority of the children are in rural areas and the activities involve digging, planting and harvesting crops, caring for animals and livestock. In addition to agriculture, they are involved in other activities like fetching water for brick making, stone and sand quarrying, fishing, and transporting produces to the market.

Hope Worldwide International Uganda focuses on empowering the parents of these children with knowledge, sensitization of children, provide children with care, health, education, legal affairs more so we provide children with a family giving them hope for better future.
